Music on the move of battery
Tuesday, March 9th, 2010Whether you are having a party or relaxing at the beach, the Edifier ‘On The Go’ iF350 is a portable speaker that is an ideal companion for any occasion.
It is designed to work with Apple iPod or iPhone. And for this review, we tested the iF350 with the iPod nano.
Having said that, it’s not as portable as we would have liked it to be and it’s not easy to lug around as it doesn’t have a handle. And it won’t slip into a lady’s handbag, unless it is one of those oversize ones.
Also, to protect against accidental drops, the iF350 comes with a pouch Inspiron 1721 battery , Inspiron 1520 battery , Inspiron 1521 battery .
To get started you just have to connect an iPod to the dock. You can use the bundled remote control or use the player itself to select the songs that you want to listen.
You can then dance till your feet hurts as the iF350 comes with a long lasting built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery. On a single charge, the battery can lasts up to 14 hours.
If you run out of battery you will have to use the bundled power adaptor to recharge it. If you are out partying, this is going to be a problem — it would have been better if the unit accepted standard sized batteries which are easily replaced.
To access the iF350’s ports (DC power-in and 3.5mm auxiliary audio jack), you have to push a button at the back of iF350. This flips down the iPod dock and the back stand, which allows the speaker system to stay upright.
The auxiliary audio input allows you to connect a variety of music players such as an iPod shuffle, MP3 players and more.
Easy listening
In terms of performance, we were impressed with the overall audio quality of the speakers.
When listening to Little Red Corvette by Prince, we could clearly hear the vocals and we didn’t detect any distortion even with the speakers turned up at higher volumes.
And if you are bored of listening to the same songs on your music player, you could turn on the FM radio which is able to store up to 18 preset stations.
However, the radio reception is not very clear especially when indoors but this varied based on the locations. Although the iF350 has an external antenna, it did not help that much.
When you get clear reception, the sound quality is very good. The two 3in speakers deliver smooth and clean audio whether you are listening to the FM radio or songs on the iPod.
In between the speakers there is a backlit LCD screen. The screen displays the FM frequency, current radio selection and battery status.
On top of the speaker system, you would find all the important buttons such as the power switch, GK479 , FK890 , Inspiron 1720 battery volume control and music playback.
There is also a remote control which is cleverly hidden behind the speaker system. The remote control has all the handy shortcut buttons you would expect and is also able to access the iPod’s features.
Conclusion
Overall, we like the Edifier ‘On The Go’ iF350 speaker system. It is great to have for any weekend gateway as it is good at playing any type of music.
However, quality doesn’t come cheap as the iF350 costs RM579, which is quite a lot for a portable speaker system.
If you can spare the cash and you are looking for a good portable speaker system then the iF350 is definitely worth checking out.
